About and methodology
Recall Radar helps people check whether a consumer product, a car or a food has been recalled in the United States. It is an independent site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any manufacturer.
Where the data comes from
Product recalls come from the public recall data published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Car recalls come from the public vehicle recall data of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), for passenger vehicles and campaigns since 2013. Food recalls come from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforcement reports through openFDA, from 2019 onward, and cover FDA-regulated foods (meat, poultry and processed egg products are regulated by USDA and are not included). The site checks all three sources twice a day and refreshes its pages automatically. Each page links to the official source, which is always the authority.
What we add
- Recalls grouped by category and hazard type, and by brand, with counts and history.
- A plain summary of what to do, the products affected and where they were sold.
- Related recalls from the same brand and category.
- Short guides summarising CPSC’s published advice.
How categories and hazards are assigned
CPSC’s recall records do not always include a product category, so we assign one automatically from the product name, and we assign hazard types from the hazard text. Car recalls are grouped by the make, model and model year NHTSA lists. These labels are a convenience for browsing and can occasionally be wrong. They never replace the notice.
What we do not do
- We do not give medical, legal or safety advice. Follow the manufacturer’s and CPSC’s instructions.
- We do not guarantee that a product without a recall here is safe. A recall may be too new, or may use different wording.
- We do not sell recalled products.
